Coastal groyne in Le Havre | France | 2023
The seafront of Sainte-Adresse in Le Havre (France) is one of the most vulnerable of the coast. Groynes have been used for decades to slow down the migration of pebbles. The aim is to counteract the disappearance of beaches due to coastal erosion.

The reconstruction work on groyne number 8 took place in three phases: installation of steel sheet piles anchored between three and five meters deep, placement of precast concrete facings against the sheet piles sealed by pouring concrete on the upper part of the sheet pile wall, and finally, installation of an azobé facing, a tropical hardwood—“a landscape requirement of the project”—on the visible sides of the structure.
