Hawaiian Inn Storm Seawall in Daytona Beach | USA | 2023
A fast installation in response to natural hazards
The Hawaiian Inn in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, implemented a critical seawall reconstruction project after the destruction of its original concrete barrier by Hurricane Ian in September 2022 and subsequent damage from Hurricane Nicole.
To restore coastal defenses and protect the resort's structural integrity from severe erosion, owners chose a more resilient steel sheet pile solution featuring 125 tons of ArcelorMittal’s AZ 14-770 EcoSheetPile™ Plus, which is manufactured sustainably from 100% scrap and renewable electricity.
Completed in April 2023, the 20-foot-long piles were secured with helical anchors, finished with a concrete capping beam, and treated with a corrosion-resistant coating to ensure long-term durability against the elements. This project highlights a successful shift toward sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure by utilizing low-carbon materials to provide rapid, robust protection against future storm surges.
