Solution

Clone of Modernization of Giurgiu Port, Romania | 2022

The modernization of the Port of Giurgiu is progressing at full speed, with more than 85% of the work completed. This ambitious project aims to enhance port infrastructure, improve navigation safety, and optimize inland waterway transport efficiency.

Project Scope and Progress

Berths 1 & 2

  • Completion of the vertical quay construction using a combi-wall system with HZM profiles and AZ sheet piles.
  • Installation of quay fenders and mooring bollards for shallow waters.
  • Completion of crane rail tracks and backfill behind the quay.
  • Ongoing utility network installations, including water supply, stormwater drainage, power supply, and port lighting.
  • Upcoming concrete paving of the port platform, expanding the operational area by 10,000 sqm.

Berths 5 & 6

  •  Quay wall construction progress exceeds 80%.
  • Installation of utility networks has commenced.

Additional Infrastructure Improvements

  • Repairs completed on the upstream guiding pier.
  • Construction of a new downstream protective pier to enhance navigation safety.
  • Structural improvements to protect port infrastructure and optimize operational flow in the Veriga Basin.

Benefits of the Project

Enhanced port efficiency and operational capacity. Strengthened protection against environmental conditions and erosion. Improved logistics for inland waterway transport. Increased safety for vessels and port operations.

As we approach the final stages of this significant infrastructure upgrade, we remain committed to delivering a modern, resilient, and future-ready port to support the evolving demands of regional and international trade.

Benefits of the Project

The project increases cargo handling capacity, improves operational efficiency, and strengthens connectivity along key European transport routes.

The durable steel sheet pile solution also ensures long-term performance and reliability for strategic port infrastructure. Construction works began
in early 2024. Thanks to the rapid installation of the steel sheet piles quay walls, the project was completed on time and commissioned in the mid-2025.
