Standard EN 10248 – Part 1: 2023 – new version.

The revised European standard EN 10248 – Part 1: 2023 - "Hot-rolled steel sheet piles - Part 1: Technical delivery conditions" replaces the 1995 version. The main changes / additions are:
  • new steel grades S 460 GP and S 500 GP, with a yield strength fy of 460 MPa, respectively 500 MPa;
  • maximum CEV values (carbon equivalent value) - see Tables 1 and 2;
  • impact properties (Charpy V-Notch test) - see Table 3;
  • testing about the load-bearing capacity to confirm the resistance of the sheet piles (see Annexes C, D and E), for instance the testing of the interlock resistance of straight web sheet piles, the resistance of crimped points of U-type steel sheet piles;
  • modification concerning the maximum values for the chemical composition - see Tables 1 and 2;
  • addition of a clause dedicated to hot-dip zinc-coating;
  • new wording for Clauses 8, 9 and 10 for inspection and testing.
The new standard has been published in several European countries, and thus EN 10248 – Part 1: 2023 is already applicable in those countries. The previous version from 1995 shall be withdrawn by the countries adopting EN standards at the latest by September 2023.
